Dunn The Leader?

April 8th, 2009 at 5:55 am
World Baseball Classic 2009 - Netherlands v USA

Does anyone else find this quote from a recent Washington Post article ridiculous?

“That’s not Ryan’s (Zimmerman) way, to be real outspoken,” Nationals Manager Manny Acta said. “Adam said he wants to do that. He never had a chance in Cincinnati. So, we’ll see.”

You have to listen to learn. And for eight seasons in Cincinnati, Dunn listened to veterans such as Barry Larkin and especially Ken Griffey Jr., the consummate needler.

Adam Dunn never had the chance to be a leader in Cincinnati?  Larkin retired in 2004, Griffey was oft-injured.  So in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008…those weren’t enough chances for Dunn to become the heart and soul of the team?

Face it, Dunn is not a ‘get on my shoulders and I’ll lead us to the promised land’ type of guy.  As I said before, he is a good piece on the right team, but not for a team that needs him to be a strong leader.  That’s just not Adam Dunn.

Just don’t insult our intelligence about never having a chance to lead in Cincinnati…he had so many chances he got himself traded out of town.

The Seal of the Dunn-key is still prevalent in the clubhouse. Most notably in last night's game by young-in Bruce. From my viewpoint last night, Section 134 Row S, I KNOW the jersey I saw read "Dunn 44" after the oh-so eloquent flop and graceful barrel roll in right field last night.
  • Well, he is older now & probably more mature, too.
  • I am sorry but Adam Dunn is absolutely terrible. His defense in the World Baseball Classic almost single handedly took us out of the tournament. Beyond hitting Home Runs, he brings nothing to a team. .230 batting average 200 strike outs, 40 Homers and bad defense....no thanks!
