The 1906 Cincinnati Reds home and away uniforms, aka the best duds in franchise history

The year 1906 produced many great things in history.  For starters, the image of a Dachshund stuffed inside a frankfurter bun laid the groundwork for what we now commonly refer to as the “hot dog.”   A San Francisco native by the name of G.W. Maxwell introduced the first milk cartons which later replaced the glass bottle delivery service.  The average U.S. annual income was $879, gas was $.06 per gallon and bacon, my life blood, could be purchased for $.20 a pound– but that’s not all.  1906 was also the year the Cincinnati Reds produced what I believe to be the best uniforms in franchise history.

Going back through the history of Reds’ uniforms, I have come to the conclusion that the threads from the 1906-07 season are worthy of a resurrection.  The only change I would make would be the addition of the throwback Reds logo on the hat, similar to the “C” they wore on their jersey.  I wish I could back up this idea with some profound reasoning as to why they should be worn again from a performance standpoint, but unforunately that is not the case.  The 1906 Reds finished the season an unpropitious 64-87, but damn they looked good doing it!

If there is a Reds uniform that you would like to see brought back for a weekend series go ahead and let us know in the comments section, and give the reason why you would like to see it worn by the 2009 team.  Keep in mind your opinions are welcomed and encouraged, but in no way will they be taken into consideration by the Reds organization….yet.

I could go with this 1936 logo for one game. If you don't like the colors, you don't like America:
