Our good friend David ‘Stormy’ Weathers had his first rough outing of the season, but it couldn’t damper Johnny Cueto’s sparkling seven inning, one-run performance as the Reds held on to beat the 1st place Cardinals 6-4.
Willy Taveras had his first homer of the year as the Reds pecked away at Cards starter Joel Pineiro for two runs in the first, and three more in the second. Jerry Hairston, Jr. finally went above the Mendoza line with two hits and two RBI’s filling in for the ill Brandon Phillips. Cueto was hitless but helped his own cause with an RBI and two runs scored.
Lance “The Lynx” Nix continued to shine with two great defensive plays in left field, despite going 0 for 4 at the plate.
Saturday’s duel has a familiar face in Kyle Loshe going for St. Louis while Aaron Harang will try and shake off the bitter no-decision he received in the 14-inning loss to the Marlins on Monday.
As of 3pm on Saturday, all $5 seats, $7 bleacher seats, and $22 moon deck tickets were sold…with just $14 View level, $34 field box, and limited $22 Mezzanine seats remaning. Tonight the first 30,000 fans will receive a Joey Votto Bobblehead.
