We (used to) go like Wily Mo!

Great American Ballpark opened in 2003, and to be honest, not much history has been made so far.  No playoff appearances, no all-star games, not even a stirring September playoff chase.

As a result, I will start randomly posting ‘pretty good’ moments in GABP History.

In today’s edition, we go back to June 8th, 2005.  Wily Mo Pena bobblehead night.  Reds vs. Devil Rays.

In a wild, back and forth affair, Pena hit a home run in the second, then a walk-off 2-run shot to win the game 11-9.

The Reds trailed 9-4 going into the bottom of the 7th, but scored one in the bottom half of the inning, three in the 8th, and three in the 9th.

Eric Milton started for the Reds, giving up seven earned runs in five innings.  The venerable Stormy Weathers got the win in relief.

Check out the top play once you click on the link below…Wily Mo cranks an upper deck shot for the game winner…that ball still hasn’t landed.  Plus, it’s the only time in his career that he actually hit a curveball.

Here’s to you, Wily Mo.
